Zunächst soll erklärt werden, wie Freiwillige Feuerwehren definiert und strukturiert sind. Anschlie end wird die bestehende Personalproblematik, deren Entwicklung und mögliche Ursachen näher beschrieben. Im weiteren Verlauf werden sogenannte "Non-Profit- Organisationen", d. h. gemeinnützige Organisationen, am Beispiel der Feuerwehren mit Unternehmen verglichen und dargestellt, wie sich bestehende Instrumente und Methoden der Personalgewinnung/ -erhaltung unterscheiden. Abschlie end soll im Rahmen einer Diskussion und eines Fazits geklärt werden, ob und wie diese optimal in Freiwilligen Feuerwehren eingesetzt werden können. Die zunehmende Problematik der Personalgewinnung und Personalerhaltung ist immer wieder Thema, sobald eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Begriff "Ehrenamt" stattfindet. Die Freiwilligen Feuerwehren, in Deutschland als sogenannte "Non-Profit-Organisation" im Ehrenamt organisiert, bleiben vor diesen Problemen nicht verschont. Seit Jahren ist ein Rückgang der Mitgliederzahlen zu beobachten, welcher sich voraussichtlich noch beschleunigt.
