Sie wurde von Carl Ransom Rogers in den 1940-er Jahren in den USA begr�ndet. Die Entwicklung dieser Therapieform fand vor allem an den psychologischen Instituten verschiedener Universit�ten statt, wodurch ein enger Kontakt zu empirischer Forschung stets gew�hrleistet war. Somit geh�rt die Personenzentrierte Psychotherapie zu den am meisten erforschten und wissenschaftlich fundierten Methoden. Heutzutage ist sie weltweit verbreitet und neben der Psychoanalyse und der Verhaltenstherapie eine der am h�ufigsten angewandten Therapieformen. Der personenzentrierte Ansatz wird an zahlreichen Hochschulen gelehrt und erfreut sich einer gro en Anerkennung in der Fachwelt. In Deutschland wurde sie Anfang der 1960-er Jahre durch das Ehepaar Tausch eingef�hrt und popul�r gemacht. Die Grundannahmen des Personenzentrierten Ansatzes sind eng mit der humanistischen Sichtweise verbunden. Im Vordergrund steht der Mensch mit seiner Tendenz zur Selbstverwirklichung (Vervollkommnung). Dieses angeborene Wachstumspotenzial, auch Aktualisierungstendenz genannt, ist die treibende Kraft bei all seinen Aktivit�ten und somit das Fundament, auf dem die Personenzentrierte Therapie aufbaut. Der Hilfesuchende ist selber am besten in der Lage, L�sungen f�r seine Probleme zu finden und sich selbst zu helfen. Da die Aktualisierungstendenz durch ung�nstige Umweltbedingungen blockiert bzw. gehemmt wird, besteht die Aufgabe des Therapeuten darin, ein f�rderliches Klima f�r die Freisetzung des Wachstumspotenzials des Klienten zu schaffen.
