Peters & King is the authoritative and most complete history of two important and related American shooting sports companies: Peters Cartridge Company and its parent, the King Powder Company. Thomas D. Schiffer's carefully researched and well-illustrated work details their early histories and, especially, their development into premier manufacturers of sporting ordnance. While filled with the technological and legal history of Peters & King, the book is also a history of a particular place and its people: Kings Mills, just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. For nearly a century, the massive cartridge plant, with its dozens of buildings and improvements, and the company town King built, dominated this small part of Warren County, nestled on the banks of the Little Miami River. Massive concrete, brick, and steel remnants of Peters & King still stand today, developed and repurposed for the 21st century. This edition includes a new Afterword by the author that explains how the Peters & King site became a refurbished commercial hub, housing luxury apartments & a microbrewery, all serviced by a long-needed new bridge across the Little Miami River. This book remains a valuable resource for a variety of people: sportsmen, collectors, and those interested in the history of Kings Mills.

Schiffer, Thomas D.: - Thomas D. Schiffer has been involved in the shooting sports for over a half-century as an active competitor in smallbore rifle, bullseye pistol, high-power rifle, blackpowder cartridge rifle and muzzle-loading shooting. He has served as director and president of the Corps of Kentucky Longriflemen; member and captain of the Kentucky Longrifle Team; director, vice president, and president of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association; president of the Lloyd Area Muzzle Loaders; and as director and board chairman of the Annie Oakley Foundation. He has authored many articles on gunpowder and shooting, most having to do with blackpowder. His work has appeared in Muzzle Blasts, Precision Shooting, The Single Shot Exchange, The Single Shot Journal, and Black Powder Cartridge News.
