Physics is the branch of natural science that studies the nature and properties of matter and energy.
The term 'physics' is derived from the Ancient Greek word, i.e. 'phusikḗ' meaning knowledge of nature.

Alternatively, mechanics may be divided according to the kind of system studied.
Generally, mechanics were among the first of the exact sciences to be developed. Its inner beauty as a mathematical discipline and its remarkable early success in accounting in quantitative detail for the motions of the Moon, Earth, and other planetary bodies enormously influenced philosophical thought. Moreover, it provided an impetus for the systematic development of science.
