About The Author

**Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose** (1858–1937) was a pioneering Indian polymath in physics, biology, and plant physiology, and one of the earliest scientists to study electrical responses in plants. His groundbreaking experiments revealed that plants respond to stimuli much like animals, challenging rigid distinctions between living and non-living matter. Bose developed sensitive instruments to detect minute physiological changes, establishing the field of **plant electrophysiology**. His key works include *Response in the Living and Non-living* (1902), *Plant Response* (1906), *Physiology of Photosynthesis* (1924), and *The Nervous Mechanism of Plants* (1926). Bose also wrote science fiction and published extensively in prestigious scientific journals.
