Unabhängig davon, wie wir zur "Kunst der Interpretation" (1955) von Emil Staiger stehen, sein 'Vorwurf' bleibt Anspruch gerade auch in der kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit dieser 'Kunst'. Die hier vorgelegte Poetik des Deutens bezieht sich zwar nicht ausdrücklich auf Staigers Ansatz, teilt aber im Prinzip seine Auffassung, dass das "subjektive Gefühl als Basis wissenschaftlicher Arbeit" Geltung besitzt. Diese Aufsätze, in denen die vorgeführte Interpretationspraxis der Annäherung an literarische Kunstwerke mit theoretischen Erwägungen zur Ästhetik kritischer Verfahren korreliert, verstehen das "Deuten" wörtlich und in Ableitung von der theologischen Auffassung, nach der Deuteworte (in der Eucharistie) Zeichen und Zeugnis einer ästhetischen Willensbekundung zur sprachlichen Gestaltung bieten. Diese interpretatorischen Studien gehen von der Literatur als einer ästhetischen Erfahrung aus, die literarische (Selbst-)Reflexivität an Beispielen deklinieren, die vom Fragemodus bei Kleist bis zu musikpoetischen Phänomenen bei Nietzsche und Lasker-Schüler reichen. Sie fragen nach dem Wert bestimmter literarischer Denkfiguren wie der Monade, aber auch des Schachspiels oder der Schaukel sowie nach (neuerlich) rezent gewordenen Ausdrucksformen wie der Skizze, dem Traum oder dem Chor. Im Mittelpunkt dieser hier vorgeführten Deutungsverfahren steht das 'Prinzip Annäherung' als einer impliziten Kritik interpretatorischer Anma ung.
