La propaganda comunista fue esencial para crear el "Estado del engaño", en el que la mentira y la manipulación eran políticas de estado y donde todos los ciudadanos podían ser engañados en beneficio del presunto supremo bien común. La influencia de las artes visuales fue muy fuerte en la URRS, y particularmente los carteles se usaron como un medio muy importante para transmitir la narrativa engañosa del régimen.
