Die Untersuchungsgegenstände sind die Transformationsprozesse in Ungarn und Rumänien. Beide Revolutionsabläufe stehen in dem Ruf, markante Beispiele ihrer Sonderwege zu repräsentieren. Es soll dargestellt werden, wie stark der Einfluss von politischen Akteuren auf den Prozess der Konsolidierung einer Demokratie beigetragen hat. Dabei soll anhand der gewählten Untersuchungsobjekte der Fragestellung nachgegangen werden, inwiefern ein gewalttätiger Verlauf der Revolutionen von 1989 und die Rolle der Eliten in der Gewaltausübung den Konsolidierungsprozess einer Demokratie behindert haben. Der gewählte Zeitraumen geht von Beginn des Umbruchs, dem Ende des kommunistischen Machtmonopols, bis zur Konsolidierung des neuen Machtzentrums. Einleitend werden kurze Erklärungen zu der im Kontext zur Systemtransformation stehenden Begrifflichkeiten für ein besseres Verständnis der postkommunistischen Systeme gegeben. Anschlie end werden gewählte Ansätze der Transformationstheorie vorgestellt. Die daraufhin gewonnen zweier Kriterien werden in der Empirie anhand der Realität analysiert. Abschlie end werden die Umbruchphasen in Rumänien und Ungarn mit der gewonnen Erkenntnisse aus der Empirie verglichen.
