Plusieurs recherches aux États-Unis et en Australie ont démontré que la qualité de l'aménagement urbain est un des facteurs importants sur lesquels il est possible d'intervenir pour améliorer le bilan en ce qui concerne l'activité physique. Compte tenu de cette hypothèse, l'objectif général de cette étude était d'évaluer le rôle potentiel de la forme urbaine sur l'activité physique des élèves du quartier Saint-Sacrement et Lairat à la ville de Quebec, Canada. Nous avons utilisé trois méthodes différentes pour analyser la qualité du design urbain dans ce quartier soit, l'évaluation directe sur le terrain, l'analyse de la syntaxe spatiale et l'observation du choix de transport des enfants autour des écoles primaires. Pour augmenter l'activité physique, certaines recommandations pourraient être faites, comme l'amélioration des réseaux cyclables et piétonniers et l'augmentation de la sécurité, le découpage des gros îlots et la sensibilisation des gens pour faire de l'activité physique. On propose ainsi que l'ensemble de ces stratégies puisse nous guider vers une ville qui marche et contrebalance l'effet des environnements obésogènes.
