About The Book

'Presentations and public speaking: the lessons from stand-up comedy' is a two-part book for people who talk in public who want to improve their performance. It draws on Dr Ray Lowry's experience as a presentation coach, professional after-dinner speaker and podium professional. It is in two parts: first the lessons from stand-up comedy; secondly a series of humorous newspaper columns on the topic of making presentations.

About The Author

Dr Lowry BDS, MB ChB, DRCOG, FFPH, a qualified doctor and dentist, completed formal training in public health and became an NHS consultant in 1990. Until he retired in 2010 he was a senior lecturer in dental public health at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health. He has published over 50 articles in the learned press. He was the training programme director for public health in the Northern Region and an examiner for the Faculty of Public Health. He now devotes most of his working time to teaching, consultancy, humour and after-dinner speaking. This may seem an odd mixture but he has penned comedy for radio, television and the press and he has a regular column in a newspaper. He has written two other books: 'Be an entertaining speaker' and "Confessions of a desperate doctor and dentist".
