Mit den Anforderungen an IT-Projekte, dass durch ihre Resultate strategische Kostenvorteile und Handlungsvorsprünge gegenüber Konkurrenten gesichert werden sollen, steigen auch der Erfolgsdruck und die Geschwindigkeit in der operativen Abwicklung. Dabei ist es keineswegs so, dass IT-Projekte immer erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden. In der Praxis laufen die Kosten aus dem Ruder, Ziele werden mit erheblicher Zeitverzögerung erreicht, Resultate liefern nicht die gewünschte Qualität oder ein Projekt scheitert völlig. So liegen die Misserfolgsquoten bei optimistischen Studienergebnissen immer noch über der 10%-Marke. Ungeachtet dessen sind Controllingmechanismen in IT-Projekten oft nur rudimentär vorhanden und werden mehr für Vergangenheitsbetrachtungen, denn für eine sorgfältige und vorausschauende Planung sowie die aktive und frühzeitige Steuerung genutzt. Nicht zuletzt aus den eigenen praktischen Erfahrungen als angestellter Projektmanager eines IT-Dienstleisters erscheinen genau diese Faktoren entscheidend zur Sicherung des Projekterfolgs beizutragen. Die Projekten im Allgemeinen und IT-Projekten im Besonderen innewohnende hohe Unsicherheit, besonders in der Initiierungsphase und während der ersten Wochen der Durchführung, erfordert nicht nur die häufige und offene Kommunikation zwischen allen Projektbeteiligten, um frühzeitig relevante Informationen zur Auswertun
