Je höher der Dienstleistungsanteil, desto fortschrittlicher die Volkswirtschaft. Um den hohen Standard zu erreichen, wird die Beschaffung von Leistungen, die nicht selbst erbracht werden können, notwendig. Jede Leistung, die benötigt, aber nicht selbst erbracht werden kann, ist eine Dienstleistung. Unternehmen und Privathaushalte fragen Dienstleistungen nach. Für Privatpersonen fängt dies bei der Kleidungsreinigung an, führt über technische Leistungen wie Installationen und Wartungen und kann den vollen Pflegeservice im Alter bedeuten. Unternehmen nutzen Dienstleistungen manchmal, ohne es real zu registrieren. Industrielle Unternehmen leisten heute nur noch 7 -15% der produktbezogenen Wertschöpfung selbst. Zum Vergleich: 1980 waren es noch 75%1. Das bedeutet, dass fast nur noch komplette Systeme eingekauft und montiert werden. In hochtechnologischen Industrien wie bspw. der Automobilindustrie wird dies besonders deutlich. Hier werden besonders viele bereits fertige Komponenten (Systeme) eingekauft, was jedoch nichts anderes bedeutet, als dass der Automobilbauer Dienstleistungen einkauft. In Unternehmen werden Dienstleistungen beginnend mit der Reinigungskraft über die verlängerte Werkbank bis zum Logistikdienstleistungsbereich mit LLZ2 - Integration eingekauft. Doch diese Vergabe von Verantwortung in externe Unternehmen ist mit Problemen und Risiken verbunden. Diese Arbeit stellt die Dienstleistungen als Outsourcingobjekt vor, betrachtet kritisch die Ausprägungen einzelner Komponenten und blickt in die Zukunft des Dienstleistungseinkauf.
