Pornographie ist ein Phänomen, über das vergleichsweise gegenüber anderen Themen wenige wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse als gesichert gelten. Die Wissenschaft beschäftigt sich mit diesem Phänomen meist nur sehr einseitig. Die Forschung über Pornographie ist zum grö ten Teil eine Wirkungsforschung. Sie geht der Frage nach welche Auswirkungen Pornographie und dessen Konsum haben kann beziehungsweise haben könnte. Schwerpunktmä ig vor allem in Amerika, wo von der Regierung immer wieder Ausschüsse beauftragt worden sind, um mögliche Auswirkungen von Pornographie zu erforschen. Getrennt davon ist der feministische Diskurs über Pornographie zu sehen. Einerseits benutzt er Ergebnisse und Erkenntnisse der psychologischen Wirkungsforschung, um seine Argumente durch wissenschaftliche Studien zu belegen. Andererseits ist er stark ideologisierend und politisch. Nicht nur die "klassische Wirkungsforschung" hat ihre Beiträge zu einem wissenschaftlichen Diskurs über Pornographie geleistet. Neben der Wirkungsforschung sind es vor allem die Medienwissenschaften und theoretische Konstrukte, die von der Schule der Wirkungsforschung manchmal abweichen und Pornographie als kulturelles und gesellschaftliches Phänomen begreifen und analysieren. In der vorhandenen Form muss der wissenschaftliche Diskurs über Pornographie hinterfragt werden. Einerseits ist er zu stark in einem behavioristischen Ansatz behaftet und andererseits durch ein nicht haltbares Schadensdogma gekennzeichnet. Diese und andere Gründe lassen den Pornodiskurs sehr einseitig erscheinen.

Thomas Muhr, geb. 1979, Mag.rer.soc.oec, studierte von 1999 bis 2006 Soziologie an der Universität Wien. Seit 2004 ist er als Fachtutor am Wiener Institut für Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft tätig.
