Dieses Lehrbuch basiert auf der Vorlesung "ModelIierung und Algorithmen", die seit 1995 an der RWTH Aachen gehalten wird und deren Inhalte Bestandteil der Vordiplomprüfung in Wirtschaftsinformatik für Studierende im Studiengang Betriebswirtschaftslehre sind. Das Ziel ist es, eine Einführung in grundlegende Denkweisen und Methoden des Operations Research anhand von Problemstellungen aus Wirtschaft und Technik zu geben. Zielgruppe sind sowohl Studenten als auch Praktiker, insbesondere der Wirtschaftswissenschaften, der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik und der Mathematik. Unser Buch setzt die anwendungsorientierte Tradition des Operations Research an der RWTH Aachen fort, die wesentlich durch Herrn Professor Hans-Jürgen Zimmer- mann geprägt wurde. Wir sind Herrn Zimmermann insbesondere dafür dankbar, da er uns die Fallbei- spiele für das Kapitel 4 zur Verfügung gestellt hat, die von ihm in einer einführenden Vorlesung zum Operations Research benutzt wurden. Au erdem danken wir Herrn T. Grünert für die inhaltliche Durchsicht des Manu- skriptes und für zahlreiche wichtige Hinweise, die zur Verbesserung der Qualität des Buches beigetragen haben. Herr A. Zeugner hat die technische Erstellung des Manuskriptes mit gro er Sorgfalt durchgeführt, und Frau K. Palczynski trug wesentlich dazu bei, die Zahl der Fehler im Manuskript zu minimieren.
