T. RAMAMURTHY, Ph.D., University of Birmingham, UK, former Professor of civil engineering, served and taught at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi for 29 years. While at IIT Delhi, he was instrumental in starting M.Tech. Programme in Rock Mechanics (1977) and in establishing three laboratories—Rock Mechanics, Geotechnical Modelling, and Foundations. A recipient of numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to Rock Mechanics and Soil Mechanics, Professor Ramamurthy has been a consultant to many engineering firms and has published more than 180 papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences.
