Das Fachbuch beschäftigt sich mit dem aktuellen Stand der Professionalisierung Sozialer Arbeit im Hospiz. Nach einer Einführung in die Aufgabengebiete, Theorien und Konzepte Sozialer Arbeit im Gesamtkonzept Hospiz wird mit Hilfe von Fragebögen untersucht, ob die in Österreich bereits geltenden Standards hospizlicher Sozialarbeit auch in sächsischen Einrichtungen Anwendung finden. Zugrunde liegende Thesen beziehen sich auf die Wahrnehmung der Aufgabengebiete, Qualifikationen der MitarbeiterInnen, Einheitlichkeit in den Rahmenbedingungen und in der sozialpädagogischen Betreuung. Aus der Untersuchung geht hervor, dass diese Merkmale sehr verschieden, teilweise eher punktuell umgesetzt werden. Weder die sozialpädagogische Betreuung noch die Bedingungen sind von Homogenität gekennzeichnet. Dies gilt ebenso für die Realisierung der geforderten Aufgabengebiete. Im Zuge des Professionalisierungsprozesses stö t die Hospizsozialarbeit an die Grenzen eines greifbaren Paradigmas. Möchte sie sich einer eigenen professionellen Identität bedienen, muss ihre Anerkennung im interdisziplinären Team und in der Gesellschaft gestärkt werden. Soziale Arbeit im Hospiz stützt sich derzeit nur auf allgemein verbindliche Berufstheorien. Eine eigene Forschung, wissenschaftliche Begleitung und verbindliche Regelungen sind gefordert.

Maria Drechsler wurde 1986 in Dresden geboren. Ihr Studium der Sozialpädagogik schloss sie im Jahre 2009 erfoldgreich mit dem Diplom (BA) ab. Bereits während des Studiums sammelte die Autorin umfangreiche praktische Erfahrungen in der Arbeit mit Menschen mit Behinderung. Daraus resultierend beschäftigte sie sich ausführlicher mit dem sozialpädagogischen Umgang mit Sterben, Tod und Trauer.
