Propaganda, un libro influente scritto da Edward Bernays nel 1928, integra la letteratura delle scienze sociali e della manipolazione psicologica in un'analisi delle tecniche di comunicazione pubblica. Nipote di Sigmund Freud, Edward Bernays (1891-1995) fu un pioniere nell'uso delle tecniche scientifiche per modellare e manipolare l'opinione pubblica, che definì come "ingegneria del consenso".
