Problemen verschiedenster Art und Herkunft in einer äu erst prekären Lage befindet, muss an dieser Stelle nicht näher erläutert werden - jeder Einzelne wird ja schlie lich nahezu tagtäglich mit diversen "Negativschlagzeilen" zur Lage des Gesundheitssystems konfrontiert. Bei kritischer Betrachtung wird es unter anderem angesichts der Bevölkerungsentwicklung der letzten Jahrzehnte wohl auch niemanden geben, der die negativen Auswirkungen dieser "gefährlichen" demographischen Entwicklung aus rein objektiver Sicht verneinen würde. Man führe sich als plakatives Beispiel die Situation von Österreichischen Krankenhäusern vor Augen. Jeder, der in den letzten Jahren ein Krankenhaus aufsuchen musste, wird festgestellt haben, wie "zugespitzt" die Lage in vielen Fällen ist. Sei es die Knappheit der finanziellen Ressourcen, die Erschöpfung beziehungsweise Überarbeitung der Angestellten (aufgrund von Einsparungspotentialen), oder die zum Teil sehr langen Wartezeiten für eine Operation, alles Umstände die viele Patienten leider am eigenen Leibe erfahren müssen. Wie man daher sehr schnell erkennt, handelt es sich im Falle des Gesundheitswesens um ein sehr brisantes sowie aktuelles Thema, mit dem sich die vorliegende Arbeit auf den nun folgenden Seiten beschäftigt. Konkret setzen wir uns mit den Bereichen Public Health, Gesundheitsökonomie und Gesundheitsreformen (kritisch) auseinander. Dem Leser soll dabei ein Einblick/Überblick über die wesentlichen beziehungsweise grundlegenden Theorien und Annahmen gewährt werden.
