Il faut, à cet endroit du raisonnement, savoir où se placer: sur Sirius ou dans notre tête. Vue de l'infini, notre vie ne représente qu'une microseconde. Il est donc impossible d'y introduire la moindre pensée et la moindre liberté, d'où la fatalité. Mais du point de vue de notre raison, la passion est la seule à pouvoir annihiler notre libre arbitre. Seule la passion peut être fatale et envahir un individu à tel point qu'il sera possible de connaitre par avance l'issue de son parcours. Et dès l'instant où la fatalité guide la vie, elle devient funeste. La femme fatale perd les hommes, l'erreur fatale provoque la mort, l'heure fatale sonne la violence du dernier instant. La vie a pour moteur essentiel une passion. Celle-ci peut être sordide, onirique, religieuse, secrète ou orgueilleuse. Elle est, par définition, toujours fatale. Il est très angoissant d'assister à l'inexorable mais, nous y sommes tous condamné.
