Das Buch gibt eine Einf�hrung in die Quantenmechanik mittels Matrizenrechnung. Heisenbergs Matrizenmechanik ist darin ausf�hrlich beschrieben und die grundlegenden Gleichungen werden mit algebraischen Methoden und Matrizen berechnet. W�hrend in vielen Lehrb�chern die Quantenmechanik mittels Schr�dingers Wellenmechanik behandelt wird, findet sich in diesem Werk nur eine kurze Einf�hrung in diese, um ihre �quivalenz zu Heisenbergs Matrizenmethode zu zeigen.

Im ersten Teil des Buches wird die historische Entwicklung der Quantentheorie durch Planck, Bohr und Sommerfeld beschrieben, gefolgt von den Ideen und Methoden von Heisenberg, Born und Jordan. Anschlie end wird auf Paulis Spintheorie und auf sein Ausschlie ungsprinzip eingegangen, welches letztlich zur Struktur von Atomen f�hrt. Abschlie end wird Diracs relativistische Quantenmechanik kurz beschrieben. Die vorkommenden Matrizen und Matrizengleichungen k�nnen heutzutage leicht mittels numerischer Computeralgorithmen, wie z.B.MAPLE oder Mathematica gehandhabt werden.

Nach seiner Promotion und Habilitation wurde Günter Ludyk 1970 zum "Wissenschaftlichen Rat und Professor" an der TU Berlin ernannt. 1971 war er Gastprofessor an der TU Graz. 1972 wurde er zum ordentlichen Professor im Fachbereich Physik/Elektrotechnik der Universität Bremen ernannt. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte waren u.a. die Theorie zeitvarianter, zeitdiskreter dynamischer Systeme, sowie die Intervallmathematik zur Gewinnung hochgenauer, exakter Lösungen. Er veröffentlichte verschiedene Bücher über diese und andere Themen.
