Und dies schadet ihrem Ruf offensichtlich nicht im geringsten. Die Akzeptanz und Toleranz Queers gegenüber hat sich in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten erheblich gesteigert. Dies macht sich auch im US-Fernsehen bemerkbar, wo immer mehr Sender sich mit Themen wie Queerness oder queere Charaktere auseinandersetzen, ohne dabei auf Stereotypen zurückzugreifen. Trotzdem scheint es immer noch viele Serien zu geben, die keine queeren Charaktere in ihrer Serie haben möchten. Um die Einschaltquoten trotzdem hoch zu behalten, benutzt man eine Taktik, die Queerbaiting genannt wird. Queerbaiting im US-Fernsehen ist ein sehr junges Phänomen und noch nicht vielen ein Begriff. Im Allgemeinen geht es beim Queerbaiting darum, das Interesse queerer oder liberaler ZuschauerInnen an einer Sendung zu wecken, ohne dabei jedoch konservative ZuschauerInnen abzuschrecken. Das Ziel dahinter ist die Ratings der Sendung zu forcieren, indem mehr ZuschauerInnen gewonnen werden. Dazu wird ein queerer Subtext hinzugezogen, den nicht alle wahrnehmen. Darauffolgend kann es passieren, dass ein queerer Subtext als Repräsentation von Queers aufgefasst wird. Die Fragen, die es in dieser Arbeit zu bearbeiten gilt, sind, wie Queerbaiting generell in der LGBTQ-Community aufgenommen wird und inwiefern dessen Folgen nun sie und ihr Auftreten im US-Fernsehen beeinflussen. Um das Phänomen Queerbaiting dem/der LeserIn näherzubringen, werden die Taktiken des Queerbaiting anhand der US-Krimiserie "Rizzoli & Isles" verdeutlicht.
