Melodram - komparatistisch, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Demjenigen Zuschauer, der den hier diskutierten Film ohne Vorkenntnis sieht, erscheint es möglicherweise erstaunlich, dass "Angst essen Seele auf" im Kino- oder Fernsehprogramm stets unter der Genrebezeichnung Melodram gehandelt wird. "Fassbinder?", mag er sich fragen, "was hat der den mit Melodramen am Hut?" Vielleicht hat man "Angst essen Seele auf" auch schon in der dritten Wiederholung im Fernsehen gesehen und kann sich ob dieser Zuschreibung trotzdem noch wundern. "Das das sind einfache Leute, das ist schnörkellos... Ein Melodram? Dafür hat der Film doch zu wenig Glamour, Musik, Kitsch!" Aus dieser (banal formulierten) Problemstellung soll hier eine wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung in Form einer Filmanalyse entstehen, die die scheinbar disparaten Schlagwörter Fassbinder/politischer Autorenfilm/Lehrstück und 'unpolitisches' Melodram damit vereinen will, indem sie diese in ihrer filmischen Mischung untersucht. Melodram und Lehrstück - wie passt das zusammen? Das Melodram ist eine Gattung, in deren Zentrum die emotionale Gewalt von gro en Gefühlen steht. Im klassischen Sinne ist es unpolitisch, eskapistisch, emotional: "Man weint". Und so durchlebt man den Schmerz über gesellschaftliche Ungerechtigkeiten, die der sehnsuchtsvollen Erfüllung von Liebe im Weg stehen, im Kino und geht relativiert und erleichtert zurück auf die Stra e, ins eigene, weit weniger schmerzvolle Leben. Das Lehrstück (ursprünglich eine Bezeichnung Bertolt Brechts für eine Gruppe kleinerer Dramen aus den Jahren 1929/30, die einer marxistisch-leninistischen Gesellschaftslehre verpflichtet waren[1]) hingegen hat Erziehungscharakter, es geht um Aufklärung und Belehrung.
