""Rataplan"" is a novel written by Ellen Velvin. The story revolves around a young girl named Jemima who is always curious about the world around her. She lives with her parents in a small village and spends most of her time exploring the nearby woods. One day, while wandering in the woods, Jemima discovers a strange creature named Rataplan. Rataplan is a small, furry creature with big ears and a long tail. Jemima is fascinated by Rataplan and decides to take him home to show her parents. However, her parents are not as thrilled as Jemima and they ask her to return Rataplan to the woods. Jemima is heartbroken and decides to keep Rataplan as her secret pet. She spends all her time with Rataplan and teaches him tricks. But keeping Rataplan a secret becomes increasingly difficult as he grows bigger and more mischievous. Jemima's parents eventually find out about Rataplan and they are not happy. They tell Jemima that she cannot keep Rataplan and that he must be returned to the woods. Jemima is devastated but she knows that she must do what is best for Rataplan. She takes him back to the woods and releases him. However, she is not prepared for the emotional toll that this will take on her. She misses Rataplan terribly and feels lost without him. The novel explores themes of friendship, love, and loss. It is a heartwarming story that will appeal to readers of all ages. Ellen Velvin's writing is engaging and descriptive, making the reader feel as though they are right there in the woods with Jemima and Rataplan. Overall, ""Rataplan"" is a beautiful and touching story that will leave a lasting impression on its readers.Long before his mane had fully grown the other lions stood in awe of him; for, although at times he was indolent and lazy, like the rest of his kind, and would not exert himself unless obliged to do so, there were other times when he allowed nothing to stand in his way. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
