About The Book

The book highlights how Russia is reemerging as a major power after the breakup of the former Soviet Union, which was a Super-power. During the last three decades since 1991, Russia has been passing through, under the presidencies of Boris Yeltsin, Dmitri Medvedev and Vladimir Putin, transition from the totalitarian Communist system to political democracy and market economy.Putin having total control of power has undertaken policy measures to make Russia energy Super-Power and enhance Russia's Military Power to contain NATO. Russia being subjected to economic sanctions by the West has shifted its focus on 'Look-East Policy' to strengthen relations with China.Constitutional amendments initiated by Putin in June-July 2020 will enable him to remain in power beyond 2024. India Russia political relations have been close and consistent and Russia continues to be a major supplier of defense equipments, even as bilateral trade and economic ties are far from satisfactory.The book will have great relevance to media groups, political analysts ,academic community, teachers andstudents who are interested in international relations, contemporary Russia and India-Russia relations.

About The Author

I was born in July 1935 and educated in Dharwar, Karnataka State and I got B.A degree in 1953 from Karnataka University and M. A degree from Bombay University in 1961 and taught in colleges in Mumbai and Goa. I was research scholarin the People's Friendship University, Moscow from 1962 to 1966 and was awarded Ph. D for my thesis in 1966. From 1967 to 1971 I worked as Economist in National Council for Applied Economic Research, New Delhi.From 1972 to 1995 I worked in Bombay University in the Center for Soviet Studies renamed as Center for Central Eurasian Study in 1992, initially as Associate Professor and later as Professor and Director. I organized more than 20 national and international seminars and workshops and have published 5 books more than 250 research papers and articles in eminent journals.I have presented papers in national and international seminars and visited Research Institutes specializing on Russia and Central Asia in JNU New Delhi, Jamia Milia, in New Delhi as also in Kolkata , Moscow , Tashkent ,Washington, England, Birmingham and Singapore. After retirement, I was in JNU as Visiting Faculty for two terms and Adjunct Faculty in the University of Mumbai for about 5 years. I have guided 10 students for M. Phil and Ph. D and was examiner in evaluating and Viva for over 20 Ph. D students in JNU and other Universities in India
