This Vietnamese Monolingual Edition consists of 35 modern mini short stories and 18 contemporary poems about the life and work of a Vietnamese teacher in his homeland and in The United States. These mini short stories and poems can be used either as a pleasure-reading material for Vietnamese natives or as a reading-comprehension assignment in intermediate Vietnamese classes. They are independent to one another. Classroom teachers can pick and choose them in any order as they like or see fit. Also, there are three additional editions to meet the special needs of those who are learning or teaching the language: -Student's Edition, which contains word lists and comprehension questions for each reading. -Teacher's Edition, which gives grammatical notes in addition to clues for comprehension questions. -Vietnamese-English Bilingual Edition, which supplies an English translation for each story and poem.

The author graduated from The School of Pedagogy of University of Saigon, with a major in secondary education in 1972 and taught science for seven years at a public high school in the city of Sa Dec, Dong Thap province, Vietnam. In 1979, he left his homeland as a boat person, spent three years in different refugee camps and finally came to the United States in the summer of 1982. Several years later, he went back to college and completed his doctorate degree in Educational Psychology from Kansas State University in 1993. He taught Biology in Kansas for 14 years, ESL and Vietnamese in California for 16 years, and eventually retired in 2015.
