Recent Advances in Hemodynamics and Blood Mimetics is a comprehensive compilation of recent developments in biofluid mechanics and biomimetics, covering topics such as numerical modeling, biomedical applications of microfluidics, biomimetic flows, biomedicine applications, and organ-on-chip technology. The book explores blood hemodynamics at different scales, including application to diseases, the relationship between blood biomechanics and rheology, the mimetization of blood properties at arterial and capillary level, including the study of blood mechanical and flow properties, flow and surface properties of blood cells, and mimetization of these same properties in fluid/particle systems.

These concepts are applied to the development of organ-on-chip to improve the replication of biological processes in the human body. The book organizes recent knowledge on hemodynamics and blood mimetics and is representative of the different lines of research in the field, showing an integrated view of blood biomechanics encompassing all scales to create a valuable resource where different research lines can be found and their principles understood.

Fukui, Tomohiro: - Tomohiro Fukui is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT). He received a PhD in Engineering from Tohoku Univ. (Japan). His main research interests include rheology in biofluid mechanics and biomedical engineering. Currently, he engages in collaborative research titled "Consideration to create functional fluids by means of smart control of suspended particles" with Tohoku University. He published more than 40 peer reviewed papers.

Henriques Moita, Ana Sofia Oliveira: - "Diploma Engineer in Mechanical Engineering in 2001, MSc in Mechanical Engineering Energy in 2004 and PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2009, Ana Moita is an assistant professor in the Portuguese Military Academy, where she is the chair of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics, and a researcher in IN+, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. A.S. Moita developed a strong background in wettability modification strategies, including micro-and-nanostructuring techniques applied to surface modification. In the last years, she has deepened these activities for microscale applications, towards devising microfluidic devices for thermal (energy conversion) and biomedical applications. PI/co-Pi of several national and international projects she is the leading researcher at the Laboratory of Interfacial plus Microscale Phenomena in IN+, Instituto Superior Técnico, since 2014. Currently she has several projects in collaboration with the industry including a large project with UFRJ - Brasil and Petrobrás, towards the development of a microchannel based heat sink to cool high concentration photovoltaic pannels. Ana Moita has been an invited lecturer for seminars in several international and national universities, including in Faculdade de Engenharia de São Carlos, Universidade de S. Paulo, Brazil.
A.S. Moita received 4 awards/distinctions. She is a reviewer for numerous international conferences, more than 60 journals and 5 funding agencies (including ESA), being part of the scientific and/or technical committee of more thab16 international conferences/workshops. A.S. Moita published 7 book chapters, nearly 60 peer reviewed journal papers, more than 100 conference papers. She is Guest-Editor in 3 journals and part of the Editorial board of Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, Elsevier."

M. Lima, Rui Alberto M.: - Rui A. Lima is an Associate Professor at the Dep. of Mechanical Eng., Univ. of Minho (UMinho), and a researcher at MEtRICs/UMinho and CEFT/FEUP, Univ. of Porto.
