Angesichts der Literatur, die sich mit dem Thema befasst, sollte die Frage allerdings eher lauten, inwieweit sich Tierversuche nicht moralisch rechtfertigen lassen, denn es liegt mehr Literatur der Gegner von Tierversuchen vor als von Befürwortern. Das Tierreich ist unglaublich mannigfaltig und reicht von einfachsten Lebewesen ohne zentrales Nervensystem bis zu hoch entwickelten Menschenaffen, die entwicklungsgeschichtlich sehr nah am Menschen sind. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Tierbegriff undifferenziert verwendet und es wird nicht explizit zwischen sog. höheren und niederen Tieren unterschieden. Implizit wird v.a. über Tiere gesprochen, die zumindest ein zentrales Nervensystem haben und dadurch Schmerzen empfinden können, weil das Kriterium der Leidensfähigkeit in der Argumentation eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Die Unterscheidung zwischen verschiedenen Klassen von Tieren würde für die vorliegende Arbeit allerdings zu weit führen und soll deswegen ausgeblendet werden. Die Arbeit ist folgenderma en aufgebaut: Vorab wird kurz erklärt, was eine moralische Rechtfertigung ausmacht (Abschnitt 1.3). Im zweiten Abschnitt wird der Nutzen von Tierversuchen v.a. aus medizinischer Sicht beschrieben, au erdem wird anhand von Zahlen belegt, wie häufig Tierversuche überhaupt eingesetzt werden. Im dritten Abschnitt werden Möglichkeiten vorgestellt, Tierversuche moralisch zu begründen. Weiterhin werden im vierten Teil weitere Ansätze vorgestellt, die zeigen, dass es moralisch geboten ist, Tierversuche nicht durchzuführen.
