By synthesising various research findings, the study identifies new ways of improving the differential diagnosis between postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder (PPTBS). Furthermore, the relationship between the clinical presentations and social support was investigated. To this end, 102 individuals were surveyed in the first year following the birth of their child via an online survey regarding birth memories, mood, additional details and screening questionnaires. Negative correlations were found between social support and the clinical presentations. The qualitative analysis revealed specific features that can be used as indicators for differential diagnosis and early detection. Intrusive symptoms, in particular, were reflected in the length of the reports.
