I wanted to write these concise memories of my youth, mainly for my grandchildren, because I know that I will not be able to talk to them in person.

We live in Canada but we are enriched with many cultures. My husband is Armenian, born in Aleppo, Syria, and studied in Germany. I was born in Salerno, Italy, and was raised and studied in Venezuela. My daughters are Nataly, married to a man of Portuguese descent, and Audrey, married to a French Canadian. I want to leave them and my grandchildren some of my roots. I believe that if you do not know where you come from, it is harder to know where you are going.

Djoukhadjian, Anna Sforza: - Anna Sforza was born in Salerno, Italy, in 1953. At the age of seven, she moved with her parents and younger sister to Caracas, Venezuela. She lived there for 20 years before moving to Montreal, Canada, in 1980.Anna is not a writer. These are real anecdotes of her youth that she wants to leave to her five grandchildren.Anna was diagnosed with ALS in September 2013. She is on a ventilator machine in a long-term-care residence. No longer able to move most of her muscles, she wrote this book in early 2017, until she passed away in April 2018 using a screen with eye-tracking technology, letter by letter-an overwhelming feat most would never even consider. However, as the very existence of this book testifies to, Anna is not afraid of grabbing life by the horns. To know Anna is to never cease to be inspired by her courage, resilience and love for life and family. From the streets and beaches of post-WWII Southern Italy to dancing under coconut trees in Caracas in the '60s, the life in these pages is a pure delight. You will hear Anna's voice and her laughter, and find yourself longing for life as we knew it.
