(Mark Münzel) Diese Aussage Münzels ist aufgrund der unzähligen Beispiele aus Latein- und Nordamerika tatsächlich für den gesamten amerikanischen Raum zutreffend. Jahrhundertelange bewaffnete Auseinandersetzungen mit den europäischen Eroberern sind aus ganz Lateinamerika bekannt. Doch nicht nur Kriege und Guerillakämpfe, Aufstände und Revolutionen zeugen von dem Freiheitswillen und der Wehrhaftigkeit der indianischen Völker, auch andere Formen des Widerstandes zeigen bis in die heutige Zeit ihre Wirksamkeit. Ein klassisches Vorurteil über Indianer, das mindestens seit der Zeit Hegels existierte, besagt, einmal besiegt wären die Indianer passiv, träge und zu unterwürfig, um sich gegen ihre Unterdrückung und Ausbeutung zu wehren. In den Stereotypen werden Indianer als von Geburt an starrköpfig und passiv dargestellt, die sich gegen Wandel und Erneuerung sträuben und in fatalistischer realitätsfremder Weise Routine und Tradition bewahren. Diese so genannte Passivität, die bis heute viele Versuche nationalstaatlicher Integration scheitern lässt, ist lange Zeit nicht als eine Form des Widerstandes erkannt worden. Bei Plancarte ist sie jedoch sehr treffend mit dem Begriff 'Politik der Ablehnung' bezeichnet worden und lässt sich eben nur mit dem Konzept einer Gegenkultur beschreiben.
