Pues bien; al hacer fácil el conocimiento de cuanto de tecnicismo abriga el tema, se ha conseguido que haya enamoramiento de él.Si bien el autor parece pretender ceñirse tan solo a la historia de la nao Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza, le resulta imposible soslayar el contorno histórico, en tiempo y espacio, de sus singladuras. De ahí que para provecho del lector se aborda nada menos que el luengo devenir del comercio entre Manila y Acapulco y viceversa, con sus altibajos y contingencias, todos narrados con lujo de detalles y de manera tan gráfica que las páginas escritas logran semejarse a una cinta cinematográfica que deslía, con escenas vivas, toda la problemática de esta singular carrera marítima sin paralelo en la historia. Se suceden personas e instituciones, pragmáticas y preceptos, conflictos y resoluciones, como en un recorrido calidoscópico de ineludible impacto. Es tal el virtuosismo histórico del autor que, además, juntamente con los anales marítimos del susodicho comercio, resulta que también va repasando los hitos del desarrollo de las islas Filipinas, con atisbos certeros a su gobernación, así en tiempos bonancibles como en plenas campañas bé-licas. Por ello, este libro se hace lectura obligatoria para todo el que pretenda conocer la historia de aquel antiguo florón de la Corona de España.
