In a time of airships and steam-powered technology . . . Victorian London rests uneasily in the aftermath of the gruesome Ripper slayings. For desperate rumor whispers of an ancient evil awakened to stalk the midnight streets in search of the souls of the innocent to slake its ghastly thirst for damnation. There are no answers, only mystery, and it is feared that the grisly shadow has returned to the East End to continue with its sickening rampage. After the horrific kidnapping of a priest from his parish church by the ghoulish Dullahan, the talented but clumsy magician Simon Lee, newest member of Her Majesty's classified Ministry of Special Services, finds himself part of a secret mission dispatched to the cryptic Borderlands, a magical realm that mirrors the mortal world, to rescue both priest and other hapless victims from the clutches of the vile monstrosity before it is too late. Traveling between the Worlds aboard Her Majesty's airship, the HMS Nelson, Simon ventures deep into the realm of darkness, facing dangers beyond his most feverish nightmare, as both passengers and crew fight a running battle against terrible foes, drawing ever closer to the heart of Evil, where the fate of England, and perhaps the World, hangs in the balance.

Bryon L. Havranek remembers watching some really interesting (albeit obscure) sci-fi shows on TV when he was a child, such as 'The Fantastic Journey', 'The Amazing Captain Nemo', 'Logan's Run (the TV series)', 'Land of the Lost', and 'The Man from Atlantis'. These shows, along with re-runs of 'Wild Wild West' and 'The Time Tunnel', helped spawn his fascination with parallel worlds, alternative history, and anachronistic technology, an interest that he has to this day. While in High School, he took a creative writing class as one of his elective courses and became hooked on writing, going so far as to win both the Best Short Story and Most Promising Author awards for the 1985-1986 school year. After High School, he went to college and earned a degree in Graphic Design, which landed him employment in the college textbook industry. He continued to write short stories for a time, but most of them never saw print (thankfully). Bryon also used his technical background to publish a few small press magazines, and even a one-shot comic book, before the cost of living gave these projects the axe. It was only after he experienced the most awesome magical event in his life, the birth of his daughter, Katya, that his creative fires were rekindled, and he began to write again.
