Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge untersuchen historisch, biographisch und theoretisch, wie für Sinti und Roma in Deutschland Teilhabe an Bildung möglich war und ist. Teilhabe und Bildung werden dabei als Dimensionen eines Wechselverhältnis von Subjekt und Gesellschaft begriffen. Die Thematisierung von Bildungsteilhabe wird deshalb nicht nur im Blick auf das institutionalisierte Bildungssystem untersucht, sondern für die Gesamtheit der historisch gewachsenen Formen und Praxen der Bildungsteilhabe sowie für die Möglichkeiten ihrer Gestaltung durch die Subjekte. Mit diesem analytischen Zugang kann die Bildungssituation von Sinti und Roma als ein historisch gewachsenes Ausschlussverhältnis basierend auf tradierten Zuschreibungen entschlüsselt werden, argumentativ gestützt und fortlaufend aktualisiert durch akademisch legitimiertes Wissen. Ausgehend von diesen historischen Wissensbeständen, aber kontinuierlich auch von den Selbstzeugnissen der betroffenen Subjekte aus, wird die dominierende Sichtweise auf die Bildungssituation von Sinti und Roma dekonstruiert und aufgezeigt, wie ihre Bildungsteilhabe durch Kulturalisierung, Ethnisierung und Rassifizierung formiert und kanalisiert wird. Im Ergebnis werden so gesellschaftliche (Unrechts-)Verhältnisse unsichtbar gemacht und der kritischen Analyse und Veränderung entzogen. Mit dieser Sichtweise entfalten die Analysen ein Bild von Bildungsteilhabe als Praxis struktureller und individueller Benachteiligung, fortdauernder Diskriminierung und wirksamer Barrieren, die gleichzeitig von eminenter Wirksamkeit für die Welt- und Selbstverhältnisse der Subjekte sind. Der lebensgeschichtliche Zugang macht deshalb auch die Ambivalenzen von Bildung in ihrer historisch-kulturellen Bedeutung für die Subjekte greifbar: sie erfahren Bildung als Risikolage und Herausforderung, als Entwicklung von Resilienz und lebensgeschichtliche Chance zugleich.
