Urgyen Sangharakshita - bürgerlich Dennis Lingwood - wurde 1925 in London geboren und starb 2018 in Adhisthana in Herefordshire, Großbritannien (siehe www.adhisthana.org). Als junger Mann lebte er in Indien, wo er über zwanzig Jahre den Buddhismus unter Lehrern verschiedener Traditionen (Theravada, Mahayana und Vajrayana) übte und studierte. 1967 kehrte er nach England zurück und gründete die Freunde des Westlichen Buddhistischen Ordens (FWBO). Inzwischen entstand daraus eine internationale Bewegung mit Zentren in der ganzen Welt. 2010 wurde die Gemeinschaft umbenannt und heißt heute Buddhistische Gemeinschaft Triratna. Heute zählt Sangharakshita zu den wichtigsten Lehrern des Buddhismus im Westen und ist als Autor zahlreicher Bücher bekannt. Er versteht sich vor allem als "Übersetzer" - zwischen Ost und West, zwischen Tradition und Moderne, zwischen Prinzipien und Methoden. Seine Bücher wurden bisher in 30 Sprachen übersetzt.
