In dem 1907 erschienenen Aufsatz "Zwangshandlungen und Religions bungen"1 meint Freud, durch die Analyse des Zwangscharakters beim Neurotiker R ckschl sse auf das religi se Leben ziehen zu k nnen. Es best nde zwar ein Unterschied, n mlich der: "dass die kleinen Zutaten des religi sen Zeremoniells sinnvoll und symbolisch gemeint sind, w hrend die des neurotischen l ppisch und sinnlos erscheinen"2, diese vermeintlichen Unterschiede jedoch durch die "psychoanalytische Untersuchungstechnik" eliminiert w rden. Er geht so weit, und dies ist die Quintessenz seiner Arbeit, die Religion insgesamt als eine "universelle Zwangsneurose" zu bezeichnen. Ausgehend vom o.g. Text stellen sich mir vor allem drei Fragen, anhand derer die vorliegende Arbeit strukturiert ist: 1) Worin liegen die Gr nde, die Freud veranlassen den Vergleich zwischen religi sem Ritual und dem Zwangszeremoniell zu ziehen? 2) Welches ist das Wesen einer Zwangshandlung? 3) Was ist der eigentliche Inhalt religi ser Rituale? Zur Frage 3), die das Hauptanliegen dieser Arbeit darstellt, werde ich insbesondere auf zwei Riten aus dem Bereich der Kirche n her eingehen: die Taufe und die Konfirmation.
