Wohl knüpft jede dieser Geschichten an ihren Anfängen an andere Gesichts- und Geschichtskreise an; aber jede auch schlägt bald ihren eigenen abgesonderten Gang ein. Die stammfremden oder auch stammverwandten Nationen aber, die diesen gro en Kreis umwohnen, die Berber und Neger Afrikas, die Araber, Perser und Inder Asiens, die Kelten und Deutschen Europas, haben mit jenen Anwohnern des Mittelmeers wohl auch vielfach sich berührt, aber eine eigentlich bestimmende Entwicklung doch weder ihnen gegeben noch von ihnen empfangen; und soweit überhaupt Kulturkreise sich abschlie en lassen, kann derjenige als eine Einheit gelten, dessen Höhepunkt die Namen Theben, Karthago, Athen und Rom bezeichnen.
