Vielmehr kann man den historischen Verlauf der Kindheit als eine Art Alptraum bezeichnen, der sich verschlimmert, je weiter man in der Geschichte zurücksieht. Oft war dieser Lebensabschnitt geprägt von Missbrauch, Schlägen, Torturen oder sogar dem Tod. Erst im Verlauf des Zeitalters der Aufklärung beginnt das Erwachen eines revolutionären pädagogischen Denkens. Der französischsprachige Philosoph, Pädagoge und Schriftsteller Jean-Jacques Rousseau gilt als einer der wichtigsten Mitwirker des pädagogischen Jahrhunderts, denn er propagierte die Kindheit als eigene Lebensphase. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll der Erziehungsbegriff Rousseaus genauer dargestellt werden. Dabei stellt sich vor allem die Frage: Wie gestaltet sich Rousseaus Erziehungsbegriff in Hinsicht auf Grundlagen, Ziele, Erzieher und Phasen der Erziehung? Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage werden zunächst die wichtigsten Kriterien des Erziehungsbegriffs Rousseaus und die Hintergründe, die ihn zu diesem bewegt haben, zusammengefasst. Daraufhin wird geklärt, welche Ziele mit Hilfe der Erziehung erreicht werden sollen und wer den Zögling entsprechend unterstützt. Zuletzt werden die unterschiedlichen Phasen und deren Aufgaben genauer dargelegt. Mit Hilfe seines Erziehungsromans "Emile oder über die Erziehung" (1762) steuerte Rousseau einen gro en Teil dazu bei, dass das Kind nun nicht mehr als kleiner Erwachsener angesehen wird, sondern die Kindheit als eine besondere Phase im Leben erkannt wurde. Aus diesem Grund wird Rousseau oft als Entdecker der Kindheit bezeichnet.
