Osteopathen und Chiropraktiker begannen damit, daB sie vor allem interne Erkrankungen behandelten. Ihre angeblichen Behandlungs- erfolge auf diesem Gebiet waren ein guter Grund dafiir, daB flir Arzte, die sich in Europa in den 50er Jahren mit Chirotherapie zu beschaf- tigen begannen, das Problem vertebroviszeraler Beziehungen zunachst tabu war. Vereinzel e Kasuistiken trugen nur wenig dazu bei, dieses Problem interessant zu machen. Es war erst Ende der 60er Jahre, daB es dank genauerer Diagnostik immer klarer wurde, daB viszerale Erkrankungen nicht nur Head-Zonen und Muskelspasmen hervor- rufen, sondern auch gewisse Storungsmuster der Wirbelsaule zur Folge haben. . Welche Bedeutung hat nun der Beitrag von E.-G. Metz? 1. Ausgangspunkt seines Werkes ist der Schmerz, sein Verlauf, seine Analyse und Differentialdiagnose, weil der Verfasser es begriffen hat, wie eng der Schmerz mit den Funktionsstorungen des Bewe- gungssystems verkniipft ist. 2. Der Verfasser beschrankt sich nicht auf ein vertebrales oder muskulares Storungsmuster. Er versucht vielmehr, aIle wesent- lichen Funktionsstorungen des Bewegungssystems bei Nierener- krankungen einschlieBlich der Storungen der statischen Funktion und muskularer Fehlsteuerungen zu erfassen, nebst aller reflekto- rischen Symptomatologie. 3. Bei Gegeniiberstellung typischer organischer Nierenerkrankungen (Pyelonephritis, Glomerulonephritis) und der Nephroptose gelingt es ihm, iiberzeugend nachzuweisen, daB die Schmerzen bei Nephroptose (fast) ausschlieBlich aus dem Bewegungssystem stam- men und sich auch von denen bei "echten" Nierenerkrankungen unterscheiden.
