This book covers various topics of safety and risk management of hydrogen fueling stations. Considering technical, organizational, social, and economic factors, this book proposes a framework with a multidisciplinary approach to bring together technical, organizational, social, and economic factors. It develops a common approach to assessing risks and opportunities associated with hydrogen technology. It addresses system modeling and analysis issues in clean hydrogen production and storage, with a focus on uncertainties. The framework discussed in this book helps prevent and mitigate accidents and build organizational safety culture and procedures while better communicating with the public. This book is useful for researchers and professionals working in the area of hydrogen technologies, especially focusing on the issues of hydrogen in production, storage and fueling phases.

Prof. Yiliu Liu is a professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His main research interests include system reliability and resilience, safety-critical system and safety barrier analysis, and risk-informed decision-making, with the applications in the sectors of renewable energies and sustainability. Currently, he is the co-chair of Sweden-Norway joint section of IEEE Reliability Society, the leader of NTNU thematic group in natural hazard triggered technical accidents (NATECH), the editor-in-chief for International Journal of Reliability and Safety, and the director of international RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety) master program at NTNU. He is a member of Norwegian Academy of Technical Science (NTVA).

Prof. Nicola Paltrinieri is professor of risk analysis at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, and adjunct professor in offshore HSE management at the University of Bologna, Italy, since 2016. His research focuses on both the method and the application of risk analysis within sociotechnical systems. Regarding the former, he has investigated the concepts and techniques supporting dynamic risk analysis, from uncertainty to machine learning. Regarding the latter, he has worked on risk analysis for safety-critical emerging technologies (e.g., hydrogen technologies). Prof. Paltrinieri serves as associate editor of the journal Safety Science. He is Norwegian delegate of the Working Party on Loss Prevention and Safety Promotion within the European Federation of Chemical Engineering. He is co-chair on Accident and Incident Modelling, European Safety and Reliability Association Technical Committee.

Dr. Dimitrios Tzioutzios is a spatial planning and development engineer with particular research interest in disaster risk reduction, Natech accidents, risk communication and participatory risk management processes. His doctoral research focused on risk communication, information disclosure and citizen engagement issues in the context of chemical accidents caused by natural hazards (Natech). Going beyond academic research, his work also involved the development of a serious game for raising community awareness about Natech risks and fostering stakeholder engagement. Currently, Dr. Tzioutzios' postdoc research focuses on disaster risk reduction, emergency safety systems, community perceptions and technology acceptance for hydrogen fuelling stations and hydrogen technologies, primarily associated with the SUSHy Project.
