What would you do to win your freedom and save your loved ones?
Life isn't better under the sea - a grim reality known to all of the mystical races that swim in the realm beneath the waves. It's also why so many of them risk everything to escape.
None dream of freedom more than Chidi Etienne. Kidnapped from the surface world when she was young, her owner bound Chidi to the watery Salt realm by forcing her to wear a magical sealskin that grants the power of shapeshifting into the animal's form. Chidi has suffered the life of a Selkie slave ever since.
But all of that is about to change . . .
After a merfolk king offers a royal bounty for the recapture of a dangerous fugitive, Chidi and a misfit crew of slave catchers are sent ashore to find the elusive runner. Succeed, and they'll share in the reward to buy freedom for themselves and their families. If any among the crew doesn't return or they come back empty-handed, however, their loved ones kept behind will pay for the failure with their lives.
But when the hunt leads to a deeper mystery and the possibility of greater riches for all, Chidi and the crew face a moral dilemma that threatens to tear their loyalties and families apart - what is the cost of one life worth against the needs of the many . . . and are any among them willing to pay the sacrificial price?
How each of them answers the question will teach the crew and Chidi the realm beneath the wave's harshest truth of all - only through the loss of innocence does one become SALTED.

"Finally a fresh take on what goes on under the sea. A thrilling, dark, page turner . . . Although it is under the YA genre, adults will love this book." -

"As bright as it is dark; with dilemmas and struggles, self-discovering in a world when slavery is your every day, where bullying exists, and tinted with soft hope, bravery and a wish for freedom." -
Orchestta, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★
"We've been in a bit of a rut in the merbook business lately. Waiting for sequels, reading some filler in the time between . . . and then Salted waltzes in, and it blew my mind." -
Randi, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★
"Too many times I think I've found a series containing a world I want to know more about and am left frustrated by what I find. Aaron Galvin has clearly thought about how his underwater world is built and how the different types of people that inhabit it fit together." -
Chris, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★
"Aaron Galvin has created the perfect beginning to what I suspect will be an amazing series." -
