Es besteht im deutschsprachigen Schrifttum kein Mangel an guten, ja ausgezeich- neten Werken zur Schwingungslehre. Warum also soll das Biicherangebot auf diesem Gebiet noch vermehrt werden? Diese naheliegende Frage sei mit dem Hinweis beantwortet, daB fUr die vorliegende Zusammenstellung die Stoffaus- wahl und eine Beschrankung im Umfang entscheidend gewesen sind. Beides hangt eng miteinander zusammen. Es sollte etwa die Stoffmenge gebracht wer- den, die in einer einsemestrigen Vorlesung bewaltigt werden kann; gleichzeitig aber sollte ein nicht zu einseitig begrenzter Dberblick gegeben werden. Dieses Ziel verbot von vornherein jeden Gedanken an Vollstandigkeit beziiglich der Ergebnisse der Schwingungslehre. Jedoch wurde eine gewisse Abrundung nicht nur hinsichtlich der Methoden, sondern auch beziiglich der wichtigsten Schwingungs-Erscheinungen angestrebt. Aus der Gliederung wird man er- kennen, daB gegeniiber anderen Biichern mit ahnlicher Zielsetzung gewisse Schwerpunktsverschiebungen vorgenommen wurden. Leitender Grundgedanke war eine Einteilung der Schwingungstypen nach dem Mechanismus ihrer Ent- stehung. N eben den aut 0 nom e n Eigenschwingungen und selbsterregten Schwingungen wurden die heteronomen parametererregten und erzwungenen Schwingungen behandelt. In beide Bereiche iibergreifend sind abschlieBend Kop- pelschwingungen dargestellt worden. Auf diese Weise sollte der lJbergang zu Systemen mit mehreren Freiheitsgraden und zum schwingenden Kontinuum an- gedeutet werden. In der Darstellung wurde versucht, die wesentlichen Grundgedanken heraus- zuarbeiten, ohne die eine Schwingungslehre nicht auskommen kann. Auf eine Verbindung anschaulich-physikalischer lJberlegungen mit den oft formal- mathematischen Berechnungen ist besonderer Wert gelegt worden.
