Leider hat Prof. Meyer die Vollendung der "Schwingungslehre" nicht mehr erlebt. Bis zu seinem plötzlichen Tod im März 1972 verfolgte er alle neuen Theorien, Techniken und Experimente mit leb- haftem Interesse und fugte sie nach kritischer Prüfung in die Texte ein, um seine Bücher auf dem neuesten Stand zu halten. Dieser Band vermittelt die gemeinsamen schwingungsphysikalischen Grundlagen fur die Schwingungsmechanik, Akustik, Nachrichtentechnik und Hochfrequenztechnik. Eine Schwingungslehre mu einerseits die Zeitfunktionen, andererseits die Schwingungssysteme beschreiben. Dementsprechend behandelt das umfangreiche erste Kapitel die Schwingungs- funktionen in ihrer zeitlichen und spektralen Darstellung, während die folgenden Kapitel, von einfachen zu komplizierteren fortschreitend, den Systemen gewidmet sind. Die hier- durch nahegelegte starre Systematik haben wir jedoch aus didaktischen Gründen an manchen Stellen durchbrochen. Mathematisch-formale Herleitungen werden stets durch physikalisch-anschauliche Überlegungen ergänzt. Dies soll ebenso wie die Betonung der Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen mechanischen und elektromagnetischen Schwingungen zu einem besseren Verständnis beitragen.
