From the Back Cover
This book breaks down the critical elements that all introductory film makers must know to make a potent videos for public consumption. Each chapter transports the reader from a place of unknowing to being prepared to build and dissemintate their own video productions. This user's manual gives the reader a complete set of directions for video-making and the wisdom to leverage these skills to inform their intended audience. Effective science communication with the public is no easy task. Math, complex figures and large bodies of technical knowledge present formidible roadblocks for sharing with scientific findings, however certain tools, like video production, help to bridge this gap.

Ryan Vachon holds a PhD in stable isotope geochemistry and climate dynamics. His scientific research has revolved around calibrating tools for interpreting past climate changes - encoded in geological records like ice cores. In 2011 Ryan stepped away from a career in research science to focus his efforts into communicating the natural sciences to the broader public. Dr. Vachon's video content has been apart of BBC, National Geographic, PBS, NOVA, MSNBC, Discovery Channel and History Channel productions. He regularly gives professional development workshops on successful science communication and tours the country giving motivational talks about climate change in the context of empowering teens with science technology engineering and math (STEM). Currently, he is co-executive producing Adventures in Science with Doc Ryan, a PBS-based, adventure-science educational series.
