Und wie kann ihre Vorgehensweisen von denen der fachlichen Psychotherapie abgegrenzt werden? Und stellt sie nicht eine gute Alternative dar, so wie beispielsweise alternative Heilmethoden zu den Vorgehensweisen der Schulmedizin? Diesen Fragestellungen soll durch vorliegende Erarbeitung über Psychosekten und speziell Scientology nachgegangen werden. Denn vor allem seit den 70er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts haben sich unzählige Gruppen gebildet, die Lebenshilfe und Krisenberatungen, Selbsterfahrung und ganzheitliche Therapie versprechen und die vermeintlich genau das bieten, was der Hilfesuchende in seiner speziellen Situation am nötigsten braucht. Häufig sind dies auch pseudopsychologische Verfahren, weshalb auch von einem Psychoboom die Rede ist. Es ist also ein Dschungel von Angeboten entstanden, der nicht leicht zu durchdringen ist, es ist nicht einfach geworden, die Spreu vom Weizen zu trennen. Auch Sekten schlie en sich diesem Trend an und versuchen dadurch, mehr Menschen in ihr Netz zu ziehen. Dabei nutzen sie pseudopsychologische Methoden und packen - wie beispielsweise die Sekte Scientology, die den Inbegriff einer Psychosekte darstellt - die Menschen an einer empfindlichen Stelle an: So verspricht Scientology etwas, wovon viele Menschen träumen, nämlich von schlechten und belastenden Erinnerungen befreit zu werden und sein wahres Ich zu finden. Au erdem geht bei Scientology dieses Abstreifen von Negativem ganz einfach, worin gleichzeitig das verführerische Element liegt. Geschürt wird der Erfolg solcher Gruppen dadurch, dass an die Leistungs- und Wirkfähigkeit der Psychologie hohe Erwartungen geknüpft werden, an sie wird ein Allmachtsanspruch gestellt.
