Secundino Herná ndez's (b. Madrid, 1975; lives and works in Madrid und Berlin) paintings and works on paper blend figuration and abstraction, the linearity of drawing and exuberant color, minimalism and gesture. Slowly and methodically moving across the canvas, Herná ndez sets down sinuous lines and marks, using a brush or applying the paint straight from the tube before rinsing and scratching off the surfaces. The resulting compositions feel organized yet charged with explosive energy and evince manifold references: a physicality reminiscent of Action Painting, cartoon-style terse figuration, and passages that bring to mind Old Masters and especially the Spaniards El Greco and Velá zquez.

For years, the critic and author Oliver Koerner von Gustorf has marked an independent position within German art criticism that is little impressed by trends. Rather, his writing is one that takes its time, especially for marginalized and queer artistic positions. Timo Miettinen, Chairman of EM Group Oy in Finland, has maintained a close connection with art since the age of fifteen. Together with his mother, he began collecting Finnish landscape paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 2004, Timo Miettinen has been adding international contemporary art to the collection. Timo Miettinen has worked in Germany for many years and has remained closely connected to the country: "Internationally, Germany has always been my second spiritual home. For me, presenting art projects means being able to build a bridge between Berlin and Helsinki.
