Diese Probleme sind auBer- ordentlich mannigfaltig und letztlich darauf zuriickzufiihren, daB die Ma- schine den Menschen iiber Krifte verfiigen laBt, die er geistig, charakterlich und korperlich nicht immer bewaltigen kann; die Relationen sind zu sehr zugunsten der Kraft verschoben. Aber die Leistungsfahigkeit unserer Augen ist auf die Geschwindigkeit abgestimmt, die uns unsere Muskulatur verleiht und nicht auf die von Motoren. Oberschreitet die eigene Geschwin- digkeit oder die anderer Objekte bestimmte Grenzen, so stoBen wir an uniiberwindliche Barrieren. Die Verkehrsophthalmologie darf nicht iibersehen, daB die optische Wahrnehmung zwar das bedeutendste Werkzeug fiir die Orientierung im Verkehr ist, daB das Handeln, die Verhaltensweise aber entscheidend durch Faktoren beeinfluBt wird, deren Beurteilung in das Gebiet der Psychologen und Psychiater gehort. Ebenso werden Juristen, Techniker, Soziologen und viele andere mit der Massenerscheinung Verkehr konfrontiert. Es ist Aufgabe unserer Zeit, dafiir Z1.1 sorgen, daB die Spezialisten des Verkehrs nicht in ein babylonisches Sprachgewirr geraten, sondern sich zu Buch mochte einer fruchtbaren Zusammenarbeit finden. Das vorliegende hierzu beitragen, kann und will dabei jedoch kein Lehrbuch der Ophthalmo- logie, der Physiologie, der Soziologie, der Technik oder der Jurisprudenz sein, sondern sich auf das unmittelbar ophthalmologisch Verkehrswichtige beschrinken. Es ist mir ein Bediirfnis, meinem verehrten Lehrer, Herrn Professor Dr. SIEGERT, fiir seine Unterstiitzung und manch wertvolle Anregung sehr zu danken.
