Die Folgen von sexuellem Missbrauch sind wissenschaftlich gesehen noch ein recht junges Thema. Nachdem Freud erste Versuche mit der Psychoanalyse unternahm, um auf diesem Gebiet zu forschen, begannen erst in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts Forscher mit der Aufarbeitung von Entwicklungsschäden. In den 70er Jahren gab es erstmals breitere Fachliteratur. In den 80er Jahren erfuhr das Thema in den USA bereits unsachliche Überbewertung. Die Folgen sexuellen Missbrauchs werden heute teils vernachlässigt, teils überschätzt, teils bagatellisiert, teils politisiert. In der öffentlichen Diskussion um sexuellen Missbrauch vermischen sich zwei Betrachtungsweisen: zum einen der sexuelle Missbrauch als ein Versto gegen die sozialen Normen, zum anderen sexueller Missbrauch als schädigendes Verhalten mit der Annahme, dass etwas, was ich als besonders abscheulich empfinde, auch besonders starke Schädigungen hervorrufen muss. In dieser Hausarbeit werden wir versuchen herauszufinden, was die heutige Wissenschaft zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt über die Folgen sexuellen Missbrauchs, z.B. die Enstehung späterer Krankheiten, und die Behandlungs- und Therapiemöglichkeiten, sagt. Dazu werden wir in Kapitel eins zunächst sexuellen Missbrauch definieren. Ebenso halten wir eine Definition von Kindesmissbrauch und dessen möglicher Formen überhaupt für sinnvoll, da sexueller Missbrauch häufig von anderen Gewaltformen des Kindesmissbrauchs begleitet wird.
