Perhaps no classic comic-book character embodies the spirit of youth and optimism as thoroughly as Captain Marvel--the wish fulfillment of every child who ever dreamed of having super powers and taking flight. Powerfully written by Dini, with staggering painted art by Ross that combines traditional comic-book storytelling and the illustrated-text format of storybooks, SHAZAM!: POWER OF HOPE finds our hero taking a direct hand upon meeting a boy who has been injured by domestic violence. Deeply affected by the encounter, our story shows just how human the World's Mightiest Mortal truly is.

Paul Dini is a multiple Emmy and Eisner Award winning writer and producer who has helped redefine the legends of the DC Universe in such series as The New Batman/Superman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Krypto, and Justice League Unlimited. In doing so, he co-created one of the most popular characters in comics in Harley Quinn, who originated as a character in Batman: The Animated Series. In comics he has authored The World's Greatest Superheroes, illustrated by Alex Ross. Dini has also collaborated with Chip Kidd on Batman Animated for HarperCollins.

Alex Ross first came to prominence as the illustrator of Marvel's before producing the award-winning Kingdom Come. With a graphic novel for Vertigo (Uncle Sam), several projects for Marvel Comics, and six oversized graphic novels starring DC's iconic heroes (collected in The World's Greatest Heroes), the top-selling Justice series and more, he continues to bring comics to a broader audience. In 2003, Ross was the subject of a retrospective of his work for DC Comics, Mythology (Pantheon Books), written and designed by Chip Kidd.
