Die physikalische Darstellung von Nachrichten und Daten nennt man Signal. Deshalb sollte im Zusammenhang mit der Obertragungstechnik konsequenter- weise von Signaliibertragung gesprochen werden. Die "klassische Obertra- gungstechnik" ging vor allem von den Anwendungsfallen Telegrafie, Telefonie und Rundfunk aus; es handelte sich somit um eine reine Nachrichtentechnik. Mit der Entwicklung der elektronischen Datenverarbeitung (EDV) entstand als neue Aufgabe die Obertragung digitaler Daten und deren Verarbeitung. Die inzwischen immer haufiger sichtbare Verknupfung von Nachrichteniiber- mittlung, Dateniibertragung und Datenverarbeitung machte neue Zuordnun- gen und Begriffsbestimmungen notig. Ais Oberbegriff fur aile Formen der Obermittlung von Nachrichten und Daten wurde so die Bezeichnung Tele- kommunikation gepragt. Das Lehrbuch Signalubertragung ist vor diesem Hintergrund entstanden. Deshalb werden neben der "klassischen Nachrich- tentechnik" (analoge Obertragungstechnik) auch digitale Obertragungstech- niken wie Pulscodemodulation (PCM) und Datenfernverarbeitung besprochen. Teil 1 umfaBt Grundlagen der Signaliibertragung wie z. B. Verzerrungen, Rauschen, elektroakustische Wandler, Schwingungserzeugung. In Teil 2 (Modulation und Demodulation) werden mit AM, FM und PCM die Ver- fahren der Signaliibertragung besprochen. Aufbauend darauf beinhaltet Teil 3 (Obertragungstechnik) die wichtigsten drahtgebundenen und draht- losen Obertragungsarten wie Telegrafie, Telefonie, Rundfunk, Richtfunk und Satellitenfunk. Einfuhrungen in die Theorie der Leitungen und die Grundlagen der Antennen und Wellenausbreitung vervollstandigen diesen Hauptteil. Teil 4 schlieBlich gibt einen Einblick in die Datenfernverarbeitung, wobei die zur Datenubertragung ublichen Betriebsarten und Obertragungs- kanale sowie die bei der Fernverarbeitung verwendeten Arbeitsweisenim Vordergrund tehen.
