Eine dieser Techniken ist die Computer-Simulation. Durch sie ist es möglich, Modelle komplexer realer Systeme zu schaffen und das Verhalten dieser Modelle unter wechselnden Bedingungen in Experimenten zu testen. Im betriebswirtschafl: lichen Bereich ergeben sich vor allem drei gro e Anwendungs- gebiete für die Computer-Simulation. Einmal ist ihr Einsatz dann angezeigt, wenn Entscheidungsprobleme zwar quantifizierbar sind, mathematische Optimierungs ver- fahren jedoch nicht zur Verfügung stehen. Durch systematisches Variieren der Ent- scheidungsparameter kann im Wege der Computer-Simulation eine an ein Optimum angenäherte Lösung gefunden werden. Die Computer-Simulation bietet weiter die Möglichkeit, die Interaktion zwischen menschlichen Entscheidungen und der Entschei- dungsumwelt in Form von Planspielen so realistisch wiederzugeben, da sie zur Aus- bildung von Führungskräften herangezogen werden kann. Gleichzeitig ist es aber auch möglich, das Verhalten der Entscheidungsträger unter den simulierten Bedingungen zum Gegenstand der Forschung zu machen. Schlie lich wird diese Technik noch als Forschungsinstrument in der Organisationstheorie eingesetzt, um eine Anzahl einfacher Hypothesen zu komplexen Erklärungs-und Prognosesystemen zu verbinden. Die vorliegende Schrifl: gibt einen systematischen überblick über die bisherigen An- sätze zu den umrissenen Anwendungsgebieten der Simulations technik. Dies ist um so verdienstvoller, als bisher weder im englisch- noch im deutschsprachigen Raum eine umfassende und geschlossene Darstellung dieses Fragenkomplexes vorliegt. Hervor- zuheben ist, da der Autor Möglichkeiten, Nutzen und Grenzen einer praktischen An- wendung der verschiedenen Ansätze ausführlich diskutiert.
